1 Issues arising from Authentication Services Reports

1.1 Reporting

Data was submitted on time by JANET(UK) with the exception of August’s data which was 10 working days late.

1.2 Service Performance

WAYF

The WAYF service had availability of 100% over the previous 12 months.

Metadata Registry

The Metadata Registry service had availability of 100% over the past 12 months.

Helpdesk

The service level (SL) stating that any changes to the Metadata Registry Service, including the addition of new organisations’ details or changes to an existing organisation’s details, will be carried out within two working days was not met in any month this quarter.

JANET(UK) reported that the causes of these delays were primarily due to reliance on a 3rd party. The Monitoring Unit believes that Service Providers should not be penalised for delays caused by 3rd party activity that is outside of their control. These types of updates should be “parked” during the period(s) when waiting on a 3rd party. Eighteen instances (from a total of 23) of updates taking longer than the stipulated time could probably be discounted in this quarter.

1.3 Service Use

As of 11 December 2008, 480 UK HE and FE organisations had joined the UK Access Management Federation (Source: UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research web site - http://www.ukfederation.org.uk/content/Documents/MemberList, 27/08/08). This figure represents 75% of the JISC community.
