JANET(UK) did not submit reports within the stipulated deadline period at any point this quarter; the most recent deadline was missed as a result of ‘annual leave’.
This is the last quarter that Eduserv will report performance data to the Monitoring Unit for the Federation Gateway Services and Athens.
The monthly availability information in this section is given as a snapshot of performance during this quarter. Monthly availability rates below an annual Performance Indicator (PI) do not mean that a PI has not been met. Only if the average availability over 12 months is below the PI can a service be deemed not to have met a target; this in itself may not indicate that service provision was unsatisfactory.
The WAYF and Metadata Registry services both had service availability of 100% in every month of the quarter.
The Federation Gateways each had 100% availability this quarter.
The replicated Single Sign-On service had 100% availability throughout the quarter.
The Administrator’s Interface and Statistics service had 100% availability throughout the quarter. The Bulk Upload Facility had 100% availability in May and June; in July it was below the PI of 99.9% at 99.57% as a result of a single outage of 190 minutes. Whilst this was the only outage that affected any of the account management facilities this quarter, outages in 2007/08 Q1 continued to affect the 12 month rolling average availabilities and these all remained below the PIs at the end of the current quarter.
At the end of this academic year the Service Affecting Maintenance (SAM) exceeded 25% of the total at risk hours (1,560 minutes per academic year). The Statistics Service and the Bulk Upload Service had 1,921 minutes of SAM this year and the Administrator’s Interface had 2,041 minutes. These figures equate to 31% and 33% of the at risk time respectively.
One AAP is sampled each quarter and during this quarter QAH was used. As in last quarter, one sample response time this quarter was greater than five seconds (PI 100%); there were no timeouts.
There were 674 enquiries to the UK federation this quarter (384 last quarter), and 757 UK federation enquiries to the JANET service desk (385 last quarter). All enquiries received an initial response within four working hours.
There were 50 enquiries to the Federation Gateway Services this quarter (20 last quarter). Seven of these did not receive an initial response within the PI of four working hours. All enquiries were resolved within five working days.
There were 1,963 enquiries to the Athens Helpdesk this quarter, 28% higher than in 2006/07 Q4 (1,538).
In total 48 enquiries did not receive an initial response within four working hours. The PI of 100% was not met in any month: May 98.11%, June 97.11% and July 97.50%.
On the 31st July, 410 UK HE and FE organisations had joined the UK Access Management Federation (Source: UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research web site - http://www.ukfederation.org.uk/content/Documents/MemberList, 27/08/08). This figure represents 63% of the JISC community.
There were 98,757 authentications through the ASh gateway this quarter, six times greater than the number of authentications in 2006/07 Q4 and 30% higher than the number of authentications reported last quarter.
This quarter there were 669,929 authentications through the ShA gateway, more than double the number in 2006/07 Q4 (318,603) but 44% lower than last quarter (1,189,473).
At the end of the quarter there were 2,897,264 individual Athens accounts, 3% less than at the end of the equivalent period in 2006/07 (2,991,413).
There were 9,502,878 authentications made during the reporting period, 8% lower than the number of authentications made in the same quarter of last academic year (10,364,659).
Service use is explored in more depth in the Monitoring Unit’s Annual Reports. Charts showing current service use can be viewed at: http://www.mu.jisc.ac.uk/servicedata/ .
