The Monitoring Unit comprises of:
Ian Cooper oversees the day-to-day management of the Monitoring Unit, having joined the team in October 2002, soon after its establishment.
In his previous employment, Ian was Member of Research Staff for Equinix, Inc., and Principal Research Engineer and Evangelist for Mirror Image Internet. In these roles he was involved in the development of internet content delivery and acceleration technologies.
Ian has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Kent ( "Web Resource Re-discovery - Personal Storage and Retrieval on the World Wide Web") and a BSc(Hons) in Computing with Human Factors from London Guildhall University (now part of London Metropolitan University).
Ian is currently the lead contact for JISC Collections and JISC Advance service monitoring.
Sarah joined the Monitoring Unit in 2003 and was previously employed as our Network Monitoring Officer, examining the performance of the JANET network and other network infrastructure services. Sarah has also led a variety of projects automating the processing and analysis of data received by the Unit.
Responsible for the collection, interpretation and presentation of Content Service performance data and for liasing with the JISC Service Relationship Management Group about the Content Services.
Responsibility for monitoring the JISC's content services: the services hosted at the EDINA and Mimas data centres, the BUFVC, The Census of Population Programme, and ESDS; implementing the monitoring of these services with respect to their service level agreements.
Nikki joined the unit in January 2008.
Responsible primarily for monitoring the performance of JISC's network infrastructure services and writing quarterly and annual reports in this area. Currently the predominant services are:
This post is also responsible for the maintenance of the list of organisations eligible for a JISC-funded connections to JANET and is involved in the negotiation of Service Level Agreements between JISC and JANET(UK).
Ed joined the Unit in February 2006.
Ed provides the Unit with guidance on the statistical analysis of data and undertakes detailed reviews of service provision.
David Beaumont
David is responsible for back end systems development, web site design and information architecture and dynamic data system production. David was previously employed as our Network Monitoring Officer.
James Holdsworth
James is responsible for keeping the web site up-to-date, processing data from services, and supporting the Monitoring Officers.
Maxine Lingley
Maxine provides administrative support for the team.
